Explore: Learn & Read
Explore is an open playground where children play with words. Nothing is timed. Nothing is wrong. Just play. Build words and take them apart. (Or you can just flick the floating onsets and watch them bounce across your iPad screen!)
"Explore Learn" will teach the sound of nearly 100 common word patterns as children learn to read over 1200 words! Drag floating onsets to the rime to build a word, and listen to your creation read aloud. Once ready, young learners can test their skills in "Explore Read." Listen carefully as the word is read and then match onset with rime to form the correct word. While speed does not matter, accuracy is recorded and progress is tracked. Explore teaches kids how words are formed in a very playful, engaging, and fail-free environment. My 4-year-old twins thoroughly enjoy this section of iSort! |

Play. Sort. Build Speed!
Sorting activities create a focus and awareness of similarities and differences. There's a reason we don't put our socks in the silverware drawer. When children sort words into families, attention is drawn to the common letter/sound pattern and they are able to connect new words to ones already known by analogy.
Three carefully designed games take sorting (and word recognition) to a whole new level. No worksheets. No cutting paper. Just play. Each game plays slightly different, but the goal is consistent - increase the speed and accuracy of word recognition. As learners move through each of the three levels, the words and game play elements (categories, speed, time limit) increase in complexity. |
Personalized Progress Monitoring
iSort was created by an educator who understands the importance of not reinventing the wheel when it comes to assessment. Individual user profiles coupled with a robust data component make progress monitoring effortless.
